Does living inside your comfort zone got you stuck?  Do you feel dissatisfied with the condition of your life?  Are there times you find yourself feeling like life will never change.  Where you feel like you’re living the “Groundhog Day” effect.  Take a moment to think what your life would be like if you learned to manage your perspective?

Let’s talk about why this issue exists.  What we can do to learn to be aware and access these new possibilities. And how to notice the possibilities outside the boundaries of your old comfort zone.

What You ‘KNOW’ Has Trapped You

First thing you need to ‘know’ is what is the comfort zone.  The comfort zone is where you’ve learned to feel content and comfortable.

It’s determined by the conditions you feel confident about. That you have the skills and abilities to handle. Conditions you feel comfortable will not disrupt what you ‘know’ life should be.  Conditions you have come to ‘know’ and expect. In fact, it comes right down to what you think you ‘know’.

The comfort zone includes the conditions you have grown to accept as the norm.  It ecompasses and defines your standards for living.  Where you find comfort with your life vision.  The comfort zone is a condition for not doing or having what your being desires.  It is the perceptual condition that tells you it’s time to learn something.

Because once this time arrives you know it’s time to learn something different from what you thought you knew.  At this stage you start looking for life to change.

Learning To The Rescue

Charles Darwin had some wild ideas.  Ideas about how natural selection and human evolution exist.  His insights lead the way for a new focus on how we evolve and change and adapt to ongoing conditions.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) provides a specific outline to help us define human evolution and change.  Which includes four development stages to forming our comfort zone.

NLP defines this zone as the stage of Unconscious/Incompetent.  Where you are unaware of your possibilities.  Where you lack the skills needed to take full advantage of the possibilities that exist.

Here’s what they are:

1.  What you don’t know you don’t know (Unconscious/Incompetent)

This is the stage where you feel most comfortable about your life.  At this phase you are living the “Groundhog Day” effect.  Where everything in your life seems to repeat itself.

You live life experiences over and over.  You feel comfortable. Life’s conditions feel stable and consistent.  It’s where you feel life is comfortable.

Where the unexpected happens. You face an unknown challenge.  Or you feel this nagging feeling that something is missing from your life.  Where you find the passion and excitement you once had vanished.

At this stage you feel uncomfortable.  Finding your wants, needs and desires unsatisfied by current conditions. Here you become aware of new possibilities do you begin to feel hope for something better.

You find your old life conditions challenged by this new awareness. Aware of new possibilities to improve your life.  Where you enter the second stage of learning.

2. What you know you don’t know (Conscious/Incompetent)

As you enter this stage of awareness you challenge your current comfort zone. And you feel dissatisfied with what you once felt comfortable about.  Seeking out opportunities to evolve and change.

Here you begin to notice things.  Where you decide to developing new skills and competencies.  After being developed become new habits for achieving your desires.

3. What you know you know (Conscious/Competent)

This advanced stage is where you practice your new skills and competencies.  Adjusting and adapting these new behaviors as you go.  Becoming  effective at produce your desired results.

Where you use your new acquired skills to get what you want.  Always adjusting your behaviors to the feedback.  You find acceptable results become easy to achieve.  At this stage you begin producing the results you never dreamed possible.

4.  What you’re comfortable you know (Unconscious/Competent)

Now you’ve formed a new comfort zone.  Your perspective evolves and new levels of comfort are realized.  Life begins to stabilize for a time.  Passion and excitement are restored to new levels of confidence.

Where your life feels elevated to comfortably meet your new standards of comfort.  Now you have the skills and habits that trivialize old problems.  These new behaviors become unconscious life’s conditions improve.
